About
Welcome
Llangedwyn Church in Wales Controlled* School has been serving the village of Llangedwyn and the surrounding community since 1825. We have recently been the subject of a proposal to amalgamate with two other schools in the area and following vigorous opposition from all the schools involved the County Council have withdrawn this proposal and the school will now continue to develop into the foreseeable future without further intervention, It is a small rural primary school of which the Governors and staff are proud. There are two classrooms and a school hall which is used for assemblies, music and eating meals. There is a tarmac playground with a netball court and other playground games and well-equipped adventure playground for the children to use. The adjoining field is used for games, football, outdoor sports and a safe play area in the summer months.
We believe that the small size of the school is a great asset with much to commend it. All children have opportunities that perhaps with greater numbers may be denied. Every child is an individual and receives the special attention that only a smaller school allows. There is a strong family atmosphere within the school. The children mix happily and freely across the age groups at playtime and meal times and help and care for one another. The school has an anti-bullying policy that is monitored by the School Council. The School Council is made up of representatives from each year group who are elected by the children themselves.
Parents are very much part of the school and they have quick and easy access to their child’s teacher. Many parents are in school daily at the start or finish of the day to meet and talk with the teachers and quite a number help us (if you wish to help in this way, please contact us). We have concerts, a sports evening and social events where parents are welcome. The PTA has assisted the school in many ways, by raising money, improving the school building and resources and providing opportunities for children and parents to meet socially.
We work hard for each individual child and it is what the individual achieves that matters to us. We hope this prospectus is informative, but the best way to get to know the school is to come and see it. We would be delighted to meet you and show you around.
*We are what is known as a ‘voluntary controlled’ school, which means that in all matters we follow the LEA, but the Church has representatives on the Governing Body.
